Haraway proposes the cyborg as an alternative mythology for existence. Her interest in the cyborg is in opposition to theories of social resistance based in unification, namely Marxist and socialist feminism. Because moves toward unity always inevitably unravel, Haraway offers affinity, rather than kinship, as the new basis for social relationships. The cyborg is a being with no interest in the origin story or reconstituting eden, and exists as a being always already split, and therefore quite comfortable with its many desires and situated perspective.
